Engagement rings are mostly given to women when a man makes a marriage proposal. It is a ring indicating that the person wearing it is engaged to be married. In many Western cultures, women who are given the engagement ring are required to wear it starting from the time of the marriage proposal. Wearing the engagement ring signifies that she’s taken and committed to her partner.
Engagement rings come in different forms relative to their prices and quality. Nevertheless, diamond engagement rings are the most common of them all with a gemstone placed at the top of the ring. Traditionally, engagement rings are worn on the third finger of the left hand.
During weddings, wedding rings are often exchanged between partners who are getting married. Wedding rings are mostly simple compared to engagement rings and they do not have diamonds or gemstone on top of the band. Both of the wedding partners receive a ring after the exchange of vows.
In some cultures, men and women wear matching rings, and engagement rings may also be used as wedding rings
Engagement rings and wedding rings may appear similar, but there are some striking differences between the duo.
TIME OF PRESENTING THE RING
Engagement rings are often presented by the man to the woman during marriage proposal; the ring is expected to be worn by the woman from the time of presentation to the time of the wedding.
Wedding rings, however, are exchanged between partners during wedding ceremonies, and partners wear the rings starting from the second they received the ring until death or dissolution of the marriage.
MATERIAL DESIGN OF THE RING
As opposed to wedding rings, engagement rings mostly come lavish, exquisite and expensive. A good number of the engagement rings come with a precious stone which is made of diamond.
Wedding rings, on the contrary, have little or no designs as they come mostly in simple and plain forms. Wearing the engagement ring after a successful marriage proposal simply means the woman is no longer available to any other man.
Both partners wear wedding rings after a successful marriage (exchange of wedding vows). The fourth finger of the left-hand bears the wedding rings and could mean that your spouse is now fully committed to you and unavailable for the single and searching lot
